Shore Power Converter
MGEC supplies shore-to-ship power solution for safe power transfer from the public electric power grid to the ship whilst port lay days. The shore power converter automatically adjusts the onshore network to the on-board system, no matter what the shore voltage and frequency are. The transformer can be operated in parallel to the on-board generators for a short time. This allows an seamless transfer to the shore connection.
- AVOIDANCE OF POLLUTION PROBLEMS
All over the globe there are diverse mains voltages and frequencies. Owners of yachts are particularly affected by this problem whilst port lay days. An on-board electrical system designed for the European standards cannot be connected to the grid in the USA and vice versa. This in-compatibility of on-board and port (local) networks means that even in port the yacht must be supplied by the on-board generator – a loud and expensive necessity causing pollution problems and particle discharge as well as noise and vibration. The shore power converter automatically adjusts the onshore grid to the on-board system and allows a seamless transfer to the shore connection.
- STATE OF THE ART IGBT TECHNOLOGY
The power converter is designed as a static converter using state of the art IGBT technology. Its input contains a rectifier system, which automatically detects the onshore mains voltage and frequency and adjusts the transformer to those conditions. The rectifier supplies the IGBT inverter, which turns the DC- voltage into a three-phase network with low distortion factor. The consumer on board receives a high-quality, fault-free power supply. The double power conversion blocks out any faults from the shore network. A battery buffer to increase the supply stability is available as an option. Systems with a redundant or cascade design can also be supplied. We offer shore power converters type as an onboard solution or as 20- or 40-feet container system for port side installation. The power range starts from 60 kVA up to 1.5 MW. MGEC supplies frequency converters that are the ideal solution for the transformation of mains frequency into a customized frequency according to the client’s demands. The frequency converters are distinguished by the combination of low operational costs paired with minimal space requirements and high efficiency. Frequency converters are built-in in conventional industrial cabinets and offer the power range of 10-32 kVA with single-phase output and 10-600 kVA with a three-phase output. Frequency converters are available with 50, 60, 200, 380 and 400 Hz frequencies.
For installation into 19-inch-cabinets this technology is available up to a rating of 5KVA

- STATIC FREQUENCY CONVERTER WITH EXCELLENT SINGLE-PHASE VOLTAGE CONTROL
The frequency converters are equipped with a 6-pulse rectifier bridge, inrush current limiting and with LC filtering. The inverters of these series are based on PWM technology. The excellent single-phase voltage control ensures full functioning of the device also with extreme unbalanced load. Static frequency converters of the type 400 are manufactured by default with the frequencies 50, 60, 200, 380 and 400 Hz. Other frequencies are available optionally on request. The frequency converters of these type series are available in industrial-cabinet design as well as in 19-inch design. The industrial-cabinet system covers the performance ranges of 10 up to 200 kVA; in the 19-inch version the frequency converters are available with performances of 1,5 up to max. 5 kVA. Both versions are available with single phase as well as with three-phase outputs. The robust mechanic version enables application also under difficult operational conditions. In addition to an excellent sinusoidal value the systems of this type show an optimal control performance, even in the event of a 100% load change. A comfortable monitoring and diagnosis system provides all necessary information about the operational status of the system. In the standard version the frequency converters of these series are equipped with an ON/OFF button, failure lamp, operating hours meter as well as a voltmeter and an ammeter for the output data. A variety of options are available, e.g. radio interference suppression according to specification, over voltage and low voltage indicator, remote control, controlled input rectifier, additional potential-free signalling contacts or higher protection classes. The interpretation of electric data can be configured customer specifically, also the dimensions of housings and colours.
